Slip on should work fine. The difference in departure angle is due to the difference in the cat or y pipe.

I have a R1200GS cat on my bike, which puts the exhaust a bit lower. I need a 1.5" hanger extension to attach a Remus slip on. by space

Awesome, thanks for the info!

Going to order me an R1200GS slip-on and see how it goes. My bike came with Remus headers, so the departure angle should be higher I think... by LtcOliverNorth

Ok, so here's the scoop in case anyone is interested.

BLUF: Yes, it works.

I picked up a new old stock Akrapovic full system for an R1200GS. I fitted the slip-on portion first and the exhaust and hanger bracket lined up with the HP2 no problem. The slip-on portion had quite a bit of adjustment so even if the original headers were lower-exiting, you should still be able to raise the exhaust high enough to use the exhaust hanger as-is.

I then installed the full-system on the bike starting with the headers. Everything went together fine, but I did have to make some adjustments to my Touratech HP2 skid plate. I had to widen the curve on the left hand side by about 3/8" because the R1200GS header poked too far forward and prevented the skid plate from lining up with the engine mount. I also had to remove material from the rear-most hanger (and flip it backwards) to get it to clear the mid-pipe (the mid-pipe cuts over to the left earlier than stock). The muffler went on no problem, and lined up perfectly again. by LtcOliverNorth

do you have any pictures of the final result?

I need to find a slip on with a spark arrestor to legally ride in the woods near my house.

Thanks,

Snodawg, can you fit one of those cupped screens on the end of your exhaust?

Or if you've got a cat still on, that's functionally a spark arrestor. Never mind that a cat gets hot enough to light underbrush on fire. Still legal, so it's OK ....

I've got a Remus can on mine. Not sure it has much of a screen inside of it, but it's been inspected by CA forest service agents who OK'ed it. And if it passes in Cali, then it probably passes everywhere. by space

Hey Space -
That is a great suggestion and I actually did just that last week. I drilled the rivets, repacked the exhaust and put in a small stainless steel wire mesh sink drain. I had to cut the inside baffle about 1/4 inch. It went together fine and I rode 175 miles on Saturday in the south Jersey Pinelands for the PB500. This bike is such a blast in the woods and it has so much power. I will try to attach pics.

and a pic of my MAD MAX - rat rod exhaust
you gotta love the mix of Carbon Fiber with rusty metal and rivets. It sounds amazing!

Pictures Attached... strange that the forum does not like vertically-oriented pictures.

OK
I am jealous of your exhaust, but how does it sound?

It sounds amazing.

So amazing, that I ended up ordering a slip-on Akra for the 1200GS. by LtcOliverNorth
