Anybody know of anyone who makes an aftermarket rear subframe the black aluminum thing. Broke all the tabs for the rear plate off. Had the bmw tail bag on with a small tool kit in it and added 2 extra bolts but it still didn't hold up sup
Nope. I heard of similar incidents and when I'm going to do my big trip (or if...) I want a reinforced sub frame.
I hope someone knows. You could check Holan in Poland, Wunderlich, Touratech and the likes. The Latest is the Greatest '09 HP2 Enduro - '10 m696 - '08 Koga XPM-M
I broke my subframe last summer near the Czech border when I crashed. The original is fragile and far too expensive (about EUR 300.-). Try bringing the original to a locksmith and have it duplicated for stainless. Qua Patet Orbis

Thank God (Or An3s), we digitalized it for eternity!

I broke mine. Twice. The previous owner broke it once before me. Every time it's something different breaking -- the tubes, the mounting tabs. I get it fixed by local welders and have them reinforce the area that breaks.
I haven't fixed the most recent break, but it sounds like yours: the mounting tabs broke off while riding down rocky road with maybe 2 kg of weight on the rear rack. I'm going to have a friend who does aluminum welding put on thick blocks of aluminum in place of the thin tabs. (Maybe 1 cm thick or so. Overkill, really.) Then I'll drill and tap holes for the bolts. I'll post pictures once I get this done.
My take: it's a race bike, and they never meant for anything to be back there. If we want to put any cargo on the back and still use the bike on rough trails, we risk breaking that piece.
As an alternative, Wunderlich and Africa Queen both make rear racks that bolts to the blue frame rather than that weak black aluminum piece. --------
I got it dirty already and it held up with no problems. 300miles of dirt solid as a rock. Tyler at metal tech "623-915-9856"is the one who built it for me and he has the jig to do more if people are interested probally cost more than a new one from bmw but way stronger sup
OK all, I got a response from Archimende and Andrea about the subframe. He sells the for 190 euro;s with 20 euro discount for 3 pieces or more. I'm sure we can get more discount when we order even more than 3!
His email address is Italian. It's probably difficult to do a group buy but I guess a forum buy is also good. I'm thinking to get it just in case. I was also thinking to reinforce my frame with an expoxy based coating.
